The 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holidays are the perfect time for tourists to experience a more meaningful Balinese atmosphere. One destination worth adding to your list of must-visit destinations is Penglipuran Tourism Village in Bangli, which is once again presenting a series of cultural attractions and regenerative tourism practices to welcome the year-end holiday season.
The Penglipuran Tourism Village management has prepared various programs that not only provide entertainment but also encourage tourists to participate in preserving the village’s natural and cultural heritage.
The Head of Penglipuran Tourism Village Management, I Wayan Sumiarsa, stated that all preparations have been carried out thoroughly to ensure tourists enjoy a safe, comfortable holiday, and one that is steeped in Balinese cultural values.
“The end of the year is always eagerly awaited by tourists. This year, we are not only adding attractions but also reinforcing the message that every visit to Penglipuran contributes to the preservation of nature, culture, and the well-being of the community,” said Sumiarsa on Sunday (December 7, 2025).
Penglipuran is now developing the concept of regenerative tourism, going beyond simply sustainable tourism. This model not only mitigates the negative impacts of tourism but also actively seeks to improve the environmental, social, and cultural quality of the village.
Community-based tourism management remains key, with traditional villages and residents directly involved in decision-making, ensuring a more equitable distribution of economic and social benefits.
To enliven the Christmas and New Year holidays, Penglipuran Tourism Village is presenting a variety of cultural attractions. One such attraction is the Barong Macan Cultural Parade, held on December 27, 2025.
At least 15 Barong Macan will parade along the village’s main path, accompanied by gamelan music and young musicians from the local hamlet. This event is a collaboration between the tourism village management and the Penglipuran Yowana Putra Yudha community. It also serves as a forum for arts and cultural regeneration, involving the younger generation as dancers, musicians, and production team members.
The attraction continues with the dramatic performance “Tetantria Macan Gading,” which will be staged daily from December 28, 2025, to January 1, 2026. The performance combines dance, traditional music, and theater, conveying messages of courage, togetherness, and harmony between humans and nature. Besides being a spectacle, this performance serves as an educational tool for tourists about the values of Penglipuran’s local wisdom.
The year-end atmosphere in Penglipuran is further enhanced by thematic decorations made from bamboo and natural materials. The use of bamboo replaces single-use plastic decorations, in line with the village’s commitment to reducing waste and maintaining a low ecological footprint. This atmosphere reinforces Penglipuran’s image as a culturally and environmentally-based tourism village.
For culinary enthusiasts, Bamboo Café offers a special Christmas and New Year menu featuring local ingredients and signature drinks like loloh cemcem. This event is complemented by acoustic music performances that create a warm and intimate atmosphere amidst the bamboo forest, providing a tranquil and reflective holiday experience for families and couples.
In anticipation of the surge in tourist visits, the Penglipuran Tourism Village management has strengthened its service arrangements, including adding staff, reorganizing entry and exit routes and parking, and setting up information points and educational boards regarding regulations and green tourism principles.
Sumiarsa also encouraged tourists to make Penglipuran their primary year-end holiday destination. “We invite tourists from all over Indonesia and abroad to celebrate Christmas and New Year at Penglipuran Tourism Village. Come not only to enjoy the sights, but also to help maintain cleanliness, respect local customs, purchase local MSME products, and become part of the regenerative tourism movement,” he said.
